Levi Comstock is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger, singer-songwriter, conductor, clinician, educator, and sometimes poet. He plays viola in the North Star String Quartet and has taught orchestra at Champlin Park High School since 2013. His musical adventures have led him to perform for multiple crowned heads of Europe, the actual James Taylor, and even Dr. Anthony Fauci, who seemed to really enjoy his arrangement of “Pink Pony Club.”
His music and poetry blend classical and modern styles and center around themes of family, memory, and finding meaning in the everyday moments of life. Along with stuff that’s just fun to rock out to.
As an educator, Levi has a special passion for using a variety of fiddling styles, improvisation, and composition to teach teach string technique, theory, and musicality. He has presented at local and national music educator conferences, including ASTA, MMEA, MNSOTA, and the Music Moves Minds Conference. He was one of the founding Teaching Artists of the El Sistema program at Conservatory Lab Charter School in Boston, MA, where he taught for three years and penned the critically acclaimed musical, “The Three Little Pigs Guide to Architecture.” He holds a BA in Music Education from St. Olaf College and a MA in Differentiated Instruction from Concordia University, and his viola teachers have included Charles Gray, Beverly Scott, and Csaba Erdelyi.
